Rambling

Many college students have to deal with the questions: What are you going do after you graduate from your bachelor’s degree? Are you planning on going to graduate college? What are you going to study in graduate college if so? And so many others that people come up with. Personally I have no idea. Most of my friends kept telling me about how they didn’t like anything they studied and they constantly changed careers other just stayed on what they chose because they thought it was the least they disliked. When I started looking around for options I had one big problem I liked everything. And as I keep searching for options more appealing careers and offers arise. Then other questions pop up like: Do I want to stay on Puerto Rico? Do I want to settle down? This never-ending parade of questions keep harassing me and the sad part is that the most time I dedicate to getting the answers the more questions and doubts I have.

They always told me not to worry that I would know as soon as I got to college. Yeah right! Now when people ask me what do you want to study and I start to ramble on all my options they look at me like if I’m crazy and ask me if I’m planning on staying in college for the rest of my life. Not all of us are 100% positive of what we want to study on the first year or some aren’t even sure what’s next after their done studying but I guess the fun is in finding out what we want as we go. The little (or big) mistakes that we do on the way just help us value it more and even might open doors for unexpected things (which are not always bad).

Vampire Trend

The vampire frenzy is back with movies like Twilight and television series like True Blood. Vampires are seen as hip and cool beings that may have to drink human blood to survive but that is just a minor setback regardless of it they are seen as mysterious and sexy. Well in real life history we have had a few real “vampires” like Vlad III The Impaler and Erzsebet Bathory. In this piece I am going to focus on Erzsebet or Elizabeth Bathory, as she is known in English. Bathory’s life is surrounded by a lot of myth and stories that have been created based on her character. View full article »

The Ultimate Gift

The Ultimate gift is a movie that shows the story of a man that decides that as a part f his will he will make a journey for his grandchild a journey that will change his life. Jason is a rich boy used to partying a lot and getting everything without having to go through any hardships. The series of events that his grandfather made are meant to lead him to the “ultimate gift” with every step of the way Jason receives a “gift.” These are unique gifts for they are not material rather life lessons that are learned through experience. These gifts as Jason goes experiencing them change his life completely and his perspective as well. He goes realizing who are there for who he truly is and who are with him for what he has.

As the movie develops the personal growth of Jason is evident. Emily and her mother who showed up in his life when he needed someone the most taught him some valuable lessons, the lesson of a family. Emily is a leukemia patient and she is very ill, her mother cannot pay her bills for she has to support Emily and her treatment. Emily grows on Jason and the three of them form a family.

This is a remarkable movie. It goes beyond what we usually see in movies it is not only a drama that as always we know what will happen but we still act surprised. The lessons that Jason learned we also learn by seeing how important they are. Life is more than partying and having a blast every day. Every day could be our last and we have to try our best to make the best out of them. Life may be rough and it will be a bumpy ride but what makes it amazing and what makes it worthwhile is how we look at life and how we treat those around us.

Love is not expensive nor a commodity. Love is a valuable element that we all need in life. Helping others is not a privilege it is a manifestation of the love for those around us. Helping others and making the best of what we have will make our souls feel content. No matter what we believe it whether it’s a God, a Spiritual Force or nothing at all, we all know that rejoicement in the heart exists and that good deeds make our hearts leap with joy.  So why not get out of our comfort zone and start doing things for out true happiness not just to survive.

Bible and Women

1 Corinthians 11:7-10

7 For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 (For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. 9 Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.) 10 That is why a woman ought to have a veil on her head, because of the angels.

1 Corinthians 14:34-38

34 the women should keep silence in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says. 35 If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. 36 What! Did the word of God originate with you, or are you the only ones it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that what I am writing to you is a command of the Lord. 38 If any one does not recognize this, he is not recognized View full article »

Love families

Issue 2, 2007 of Target Magazine, in the article Bangladesh

Why do humans adopt? Why do we love unconditionally? These are the same type of questions, yet we still value one more than the other. We have been taught from an early age that when we grow up we have to have a family including a partner and children. Not only that, women are taught to believe pregnancy to be a blissful and mystical moment. Why cannot we adopt? Adoption is a beautiful process of finding a child you feel a connection with and taking her/him home and making her/him part of your family. Many people recur to adoption as a last resource when they cannot have their own children, but wouldn’t it be amazing to have more people adopting. Adopting a child that needs caring and as a great way to give a child a home, and not as a last resource. If the idea of adoption was open to more couples as a first choice, so that they can have their own children and also adopt, we would have a world where orphans would not be so rampant. Different life style

© Peter Paul Rubens

Many people confuse the different terminology of the variants of vegetarianism. Others think vegetarians are crazy or just plain picky. But this is not the case many people chose this lifestyle because of different issues ranging from religious beliefs to just wanting to live a healthy lifestyle and caring for the animals that need to be killed to provide the food. Manu have debated that just because you are a vegetarian you life will not necessarily improve and that is true up to a certain point. Life will not change drastically for switching to vegetarianism because there are a lot of other factors that affect the health of human being starting with things like smoking and lack of exercise.   Yet vegetarianism will bring an improvement to people’s lives on the biological level of the sugar levels, cholesterol, etc. View full article »

When it comes to the topic of marital control, most of us will readily agree that it is the man that has total control. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of how real is that “control” men are thought to have. Whereas some are convinced that it is total, others maintain that those ideas are outdated and that nowadays women are the ones in total control. Not only are women in control, but it is better for the relationships when they are. View full article »

Divine Mother

Throughout history there have been many representations for women in divinity. From Egyptian myths we get Isis she represented love, sexuality, immortality and healing. Her role as a wife was very important because her love for her husband was what identified her the most. Her husband, Osiris, was killed and thrown into the Nile River. Her love took her to search for his body until she found it. He was chopped into pieces and thrown back to the river by his killer, Set. Nonetheless, she searched for him again and reassembled him. For this she became the goddess of marriage and she was taught to be the one who taught women how to do different things around the house. View full article »
